National Products Sues Lifedge and Scanstrut Over Waterproof iPad Case

On Monday, October 22, 2012, National Products, Inc.- NPI (plaintiff) launched a suit against Scanstrut and Lifedge (defendants) for patent infringement in the U.S District Court of Western Washington (case no. 2:12-cv-01865).

NPI is in the business of designing and manufacturing protective cases and vehicle mounting systems for electronic devices. Lifedge and Scanstrut are manufacturers and distributors of waterproof and water-resistant iPad cases.

The patent US7495895 involved in this suit was issued to Jeffrey D. Carnevali and assigned to NPI on August 24, 2009. The patent entitled Protective Cover for Device Having Touch Screen was issued on February 24, 2009 and expires[i] on April 19, 2026.  The patent US7495895 is directed at a protective cover for a touch-sensitive electronic device (iPad).

According to the complaint, the defendants’ product Waterproof iPad Case (see Fig. 1) (website: http://www.lifedge.co.uk/product) allegedly infringes the patent US7495895.
