GeoTag Withdraws Case against IBM

Case Filed: Jan 30, 2013

Case Closed: May 01, 2013

Judge: Rodney Gilstrap

Court: Texas Eastern District Court

Case Summary:
GeoTag filed a patent infringement suit against IBM and netMedia for infringing the patent US5930474 entitled Internet organizer for accessing geographically and topically based information that was issued on July 27, 1999 and expires[i] by Jan 31, 2016. The patent is currently assigned[ii] to GeoTag (source: MaxVal’s Assignment Database).

GeoTag alleged that defendants’ infringing product/service included a system for providing geographical and topical information to internet users in a manner claimed in the ‘474 patent. The ‘474 patent discloses systems and methods for integrating geographically organized data with topical data to help users find information on the internet quickly and efficiently. The invention also allows a seller to make his goods or services available upon a user search based on geographic levels.

GeoTag filed a motion to dismiss the case and considering it, the Court ordered that all the claims asserted in this suit against IBM and netMedia be dismissed without prejudice with no charges imposed on any parties.
